EPO Grants Unitary European Patent to AS for “Composite Duct with Integrated Flanges to be Used in Aircraft Hot Zone

The European Patent Office (EPO) has granted AS a Unitary European Patent for its innovative “Composite Duct with Integrated Flanges to be Used in Aircraft Hot Zone.”
The patent covers a groundbreaking multilayer tubular duct and its proprietary production methodology.

This Composite Bleed Air Duct represents a major advancement in the field of commercial aircraft air conditioning systems. Designed to conduct hot air from the engine to the environmental control and de-icing systems, the Bleed Air Duct must withstand extreme temperature and pressure conditions. Traditionally, these ducts are manufactured using welded titanium alloys, combined with thermal blankets and complex monitoring systems.

AS’s composite solution offers a transformative alternative: it is simpler, lighter, more reliable, and significantly more cost-effective than current metal-based systems. By integrating advanced composite materials into the design, the new duct reduces overall aircraft weight, improves fuel efficiency, and lowers maintenance requirements, while maintaining the high performance standards demanded by the aerospace industry.

This achievement reinforces AS’s commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in aerospace engineering.
